I declared my assets a day after taking office – Prof. Gyampo

Professor Ransford Gyampo, the newly appointed CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, has confirmed that he declared his assets in accordance with the constitution, just a day after assuming office.

In an interview with JoyNews, Prof. Gyampo explained that he had to take extra steps to obtain the declaration form, as his initial request was delayed. He eventually submitted the form to the Auditor-General’s office and received a receipt as proof.

“I personally contacted the Auditor-General to submit it, unfortunately, the Auditor-General was not in the office at the time, so he directed one of his officials to attend to me”

However, it’s worth noting that there seems to be some confusion regarding Prof. Gyampo’s position as CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority. According to other sources, the current CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority is actually Baffour Okyere Sarpong, who took over after Benonita Bismarck’s retirement ² ³.

“I think the right thing to do is to abide by what the law says, so I just did it, and all others must do the same.”

Prof. Gyampo emphasized the importance of declaring assets, citing it as a constitutional requirement for public office holders. He encouraged other public officials to follow suit, stressing that it’s essential to abide by the law. President John Mahama has also instructed all public officials to declare their assets by the end of the first quarter of the year, as part of efforts to combat corruption
