Armed robbers attack Total fuel station in Sekondi-Takoradi

A gang of eight masked armed robbers attacked the Kansaworodo branch of Total fuel station in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region on Monday dawn.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers arrived at the fuel station around 1 am, wielding pump-action guns. They demanded that the attendants hand over the keys to the money safe, but fortunately, the keys were with the manager, who was not present at the time.

The fuel station had closed operations for the day, and the attendants were sleeping in one of the rooms on the premises when the robbers arrived. Five employees of the Total fuel station, a washing bay attendant, and a truck driver were present during the attack.

“One of the fuel attendants who was spending the night at the station woke up around 1am to urinate. After a few minutes she went back inside to inform the other colleagues that armed robbers had taken over the place”, he narrated.

One of the fuel attendants woke up around 1 am to urinate and discovered the robbers. She alerted her colleagues, but two of the attendants attempted to flee, prompting the robbers to fire warning shots.

“Two of the attendants decided to sneak out of the place but were being chased by two of the armed robbers who were having pump action guns. They fired warning shots but the two attendants ignored and bolted from the scene. Unfortunately, they searched and found one of the attendants hiding behind a parked vehicle. She started pleading with them to spare her life but they assured her that she was not their target”, he added.

The robbers caught one of the attendants hiding behind a parked vehicle and assured her that she was not their target. A taxi driver who was passing by and suspected to have seen the operation was shot by the robbers.

The robbers tied up one person, hit an attendant with a pinch bar, and damaged the taxi driver’s windscreen. They took the attendants’ phones and left the scene after about 20 minutes in an unregistered mini bus.

“They tied one person believed to be a driver who had parked his vehicle at the station’s premises and started hit one other attendant with pinch bar.   They also shot a taxi driver who was passing by at the time and damaged his windscreen, he sustained minor injuries.  They took our phones after realizing they were not getting the money. After spending about 20 minutes, their unregistered mini bus vehicle pulled up and they all left”, he added.

Officials of the fuel station confirmed the incident and stated that the Kwesiminstim Police have begun investigations. However, they declined to comment further.
