NUGS protest on February 25 over withheld WASSCE results

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has announced a demonstration against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the withholding and cancellation of 2024 WASSCE results.
The protest, scheduled for February 25, 2025, aims to pressure WAEC to address concerns over fairness and transparency in its assessment and result management processes.
NUGS has condemned WAEC’s handling of the results, citing delays and cancellations that have unfairly impacted thousands of students. Many students have missed admission deadlines for public tertiary institutions due to the delayed release of their results.
“This demonstration is a protest against what we see as an injustice and an abuse of discretionary power by WAEC. NUGS demands urgent intervention to rectify this situation and ensure that affected students are given a fair opportunity to continue their education.
“We call on all affected students, parents, concerned stakeholders, and all students to join us in this fight for justice,” part of the statement read.
The union demands urgent intervention to rectify the situation and ensure affected students can continue their education. NUGS has called on all stakeholders, including students, parents, and concerned citizens, to join the protest.
“Even for those whose results have been released, the delay has rendered them ineligible for admission into public tertiary institutions, as all admission processes have now been concluded,” the union indicated.
This demonstration is the latest development in an ongoing dispute between NUGS and WAEC. The union had previously issued a one-week ultimatum to WAEC to release the withheld results, threatening mass protests and legal action if their demands were not met.
