OKESS Student, 16, arrested for possession of locally manufactured firearm

The arrest was made following a routine dormitory inspection by school authorities on the morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at around 9:30 a.m.,

A 16-year-old Form Two student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) has been arrested by the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.

The arrest was made following a routine dormitory inspection by school authorities on the morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at around 9:30 a.m., during which the weapon was discovered. The student was immediately detained and handed over to the police for further investigation.

During initial police interrogation, the student alleged that the firearm belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi. Mr. Baafi was subsequently arrested on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in connection with the case.

Both the student and his stepfather have been granted police enquiry bail and are expected to report to the authorities on Monday, May 19, 2025, to assist with ongoing investigations.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday, May 18, by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
